Note: It is with great sadness that we lost founding partner Bryan Dilworth in March of 2020.

BRYAN DILWORTH & JOEY SWEENEY MET IN THE EARLY 1990s when they both worked at the khyber, the legendary indie rock spot in philadelphia’s old city.

Bryan booked the place, for a minute, and Joey ran sound, for an even more brief minute. From there, their careers uncoiled in different directions, but the pair always stayed in touch. Bryan went on to manage bands, start restaurants, and book both the smallest and biggest acts you’ve ever heard of, and everyone in between. Joey, meanwhile, first became a designer, then a writer, then a publisher, and then a creative director — all while playing in bands and DJing, too.

But a few years back, the pair started working on something together — dozens and dozens of crabs, every Wednesday night, all summer, every summer. It was over these meals that the duo began to realize they might want to work together someday on something that combined all of their various passions.

As they began to plot their course, each man to himself began to linger on a difficult question. What to call it? The universe began to whisper to them.

One day Joey, an inveterate user of Post-It Notes, began to doodle the same two words of encouragement, slightly differently each time and leave them behind on friends’ refrigerators, doors, and anywhere else:

Unbeknownst of this, one day, walking on the street, Bryan found this:

What on earth? When the two happened to learn of this, they knew it was kismet: They’d work together, and with a team of valued friends and collaborators, under the moniker of DOIN’ GREAT.

Just call it tellin’ the truth in advance.
